Houseguard Heavy Rifle Team

Picture
Hello everyone, today I Bring some nice model artwork and concepts for the newest piece of the Retribution military, this artillery team looks, in my opinion, way too cool. Instead of normal, highly explosive artillery cannons, they decided to go with a more formidable sniper rifle that looks capable of taking the head clean off from at least 4 or 5 enemy soldiers. Now, in terms of gaming, they possess the Armor- piercing trait, making them unique as artillery pieces, yes they do have the cons of artillery (can’t move and shoot, no aiming bonus, no charging) but the fact that it can do some decent damage to medium or larger bases makes them worthwhile, many players are already shining with glee as the 2 Ghost Snipers plus Eyriss combo just got more deadly by having 2 of these in the army.

While true they can take on heavies and what not, they suffer in the face of infantry swarm (unless their trolls of course) and their low POW means that even with the +2 damage against small bases, there’s not much that they can do. Stat wise, they are like all the other Houseguard units…actually more like Houseguard Rifleme but with 2 points of speed less, there Def/Arm is the same as riflemen Def and Arm, making it respectable. They can still run on first turn and then threaten a large area. Of course, their one most major weakness is having targets that they can’t shoot at, like Stealth and Safe Passage (to name just a few) meaning that, although they have a very low point cost, they are not returning their points worth, careful use and consideration must be taken since they are fighting the spot that our other solos can take…and maybe, in some situations, the other solos could have done more than they can.

All in all, it’s a very nice addition, allowing us to deal with very hard targets effectively, softening them up and letting something else finish it off. They go well with Both Houseguard units, since Ranked Attacks allow the artillery to stay safe and provide cover fire from far away, with the other elements, one of these (or two) can provide some nice board control from heavies while other units, solos and warjacks move up field, and when combined with the 2 Ghost Snipers and Eyriss, one enemy heavy can be given at most 9 points of damage followed by 2 Armor Piercing attacks at POW 7, if average Armor I around 18 to 20, this can effectively deal between 13 to 14 damage to Arm 18, 12 to 11 damage for Arm 19 and Arm 20 targets (since Arm 19 divided by 2 is 9.5 and is rounded up to 10 which is the same as what Arm 20 would be taking against the Armor Piercing).

In much larger games, these artillery plus the Arcantrik Force generator (which is practically another artillery piece) can make for some devastating firepower, board denial and support to the rest of the army…not considering that Ravyn can increase the threat of both of them, turning them from nice to just brutal.
